Epinephrine in Numbing Cream: Benefits, Risks, and a Real Medical Case
Share
Epinephrine (adrenaline) is added to some numbing creams to constrict blood vessels. The upside: less bleeding and longer-lasting numbness. The downside: it must be used carefully.
What the research warns
A 2023 medical case report describes a 33-year-old woman who developed severe lactic acidosis and a heart-stress pattern (NSTEMI) after repeated application of a lidocaine + epinephrine topical anesthetic before a tattoo [1]. The authors stress this is rare but urge awareness of systemic epinephrine toxicity.

In our range, TKTX Cream, TKTX Gel and Perfso contain epinephrine; MANTUOLA, J-PRO, Mithra and J-CAIN do not. Nonepi products are a popular choice for those who want to avoid vasoconstrictors.
